Vendor Spotlight: Riverside Foods

Peter from Riverside Foods is a huge booster of Riverside and the farmers’ market.  It’s a family business and Peter co-owns it with his uncle Mike. The store was started by Peter’s grandfather and they are celebrating their 35th year in Riverside.  Riverside Foods just keeps growing and changing to meet their customers needs.  Shopping local may be a slogan but you can really see the benefits here.  Not only do they support local activities, they talk to their customers and learn what people like and want in the store.  I’ve been asked how I liked something on my next visit. They’ve also been increasing the amount of organic produce and prepared foods from the deli and bakery to meet the needs of local residents.  Their take and bake pizza is delicious!

Beer and wine from a grocery store is rarely done as well.  The selection is carefully curated by staff and features many local products.  The frequent tasting events in the store are a fun way to try something new.

Another family endeavor are The Village Batch products. The olive oil is sourced in Greece from farms near their family.  Alex, Peter’s brother, travels to Greece annually to visit the farms.  If you’ve had the olive oil, you know it’s worth his time.  They’ve also added Greek Oregano and Balsamic Vinegar with honey to the line-up of olive oils.

Coming soon is an grocery list app that highlights specials and the beer and wine list.  Having a grocery list app customized to our local store will be very convenient and you’ll be able to send the list to family members.

Riverside Foods comes to the Farmers’ Market about once a month bringing locally produced craft beer and cider.  Hard cider is hugely popular right now so expect to see some cider at the market this summer.  We are so grateful to have such a wonderful vendor and local business!
